17 ans, 19 ans : deux âges pour un roman au cœur de l’adolescence et de son intimité. Un narrateur ancré à Marseille raconte : se découvrir et vivre un être, un désir et une sexualité hors des normes hétéropatriarcales, faire face à l’homophobie et au mensonge, s’habituer au secret – le sien ou celui de l’autre. Quitter l’école car elle n’a plus rien à offrir et s’installer devant la mer, essuyer l’insulte, tenter de contrer la honte par l’émancipation, cacher la maladie ou le trouble psychique, affronter la précarité et la douleur familiale. Ce roman fait entendre tous les mécanismes de l’homophobie, intériorisée ou non. Et face à ceux qui voudraient imposer un déterminisme, s’élèvent le refus de s’effacer, le refus d’excuser et le refus de disparaître. Dans ce texte se construit une voix puissante et autonome qui dit combien est forte la volonté d’exister.
At 17 and 19: two ages for a novel about adolescence and its intimacy. A narrator based in Marseille recounts: discovering and experiencing a state of being, a desire and a sexuality outside heteropatriarchal norms, dealing with homophobia and lies, getting used to secrecy - his own or that of the other. Leaving school because it no longer has anything to offer and settling down in front of the sea, wiping away insults, trying to counter shame through emancipation, hiding illness or mental disorder, facing precarity and family pain. This novel reveals all the mechanisms of homophobia, whether internalized or not. And in the face of those who would impose determinism, there is a refusal to step aside, a refusal to excuse and a refusal to disappear. In this text, a powerful, autonomous voice emerges, expressing the strength of the will to exist.

Baptiste Thery-Guilbert est né en 1999 à Marseille et a été élevé principalement par des femmes. L’intime, la modernité malheureuse, le refoulement, les lgbtphobies et leur brutalité sont les thématiques dans lesquelles il s’enlise pour mieux en extraire une part de vérité. Là où les trottoirs s'arrêtent est son second roman.
Baptiste Thery-Guilbert was born in Marseille in 1999 and raised mainly by women. Intimacy, unhappy modernity, repression, lgbtphobia and its brutality are the themes he delves into, the better to extract some of the truth. Là où les trottoirs s'arrêtent is his second novel.
